Gary Einloth is a designer and DJ with a passion for music, fun, and entertainment. Summertime is one of his favorite times of the year because of all the excitement of huge music festivals all around the world.
Summer vacation is here, and with it come choices on traveling or staying home and enjoying the sun at your favorite local concert venue. If you’re a true music fan like Gary Einloth, why not consider combining the two and traveling to one of this year’s biggest summer music festivals around the globe? From the United States, to Australia, Portugal, and the United Kingdom – there are festival destinations around the globe to set the scene for your perfect summer vacation. What festivals will Gary Einloth find you at?
Running Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from April 15th to April 24th, this is easily one of the biggest and most well known summer concerts you can find. Don’t consider April summer? Visit Indio, the home of Coachella, on the edge of the California’s smoldering Inland Empire and you’ll know why this early riser is the opening volley to the summer concert season. The lineup at Coachella is wide reaching, from modern standards like Guns N’ Roses or Pete Yorn, to SZA, Tensnake, and more. Admission is not cheap – expect to pay $399 for a general admission pass for the 2017 show.
Another American summer concert phenomenon, Bonnaroo in rural Tennessee, is more than just the music. Experience the wireless disco and jam out to DJs with your own personal headphones, or check into The Academy and join a workshop on a variety of hands-on arts. Of course, the line-up is epic, with Pearl Jam, Death Cab for Cutie, and dozens more headlining the stage. Tickets run a little less than Coachella, but barely. General admission tickets are $324, but VIP access will set you back nearly $1600 a head. Parking for your jet, is not included.
Looking for a summer concert, that’s actually in the middle of winter? Head south to Byron Bay, New South Wales, Australia, from July 22nd to July 24th. Awesome acts such The Strokes, The Cure, Tegan and Sara, and Boy & Bear will be rocking the venue. Like Bonnaroo, there are no shortage of extras, including the Global Village with dancers, massage artists, and culture workshops spread throughout. One other plus of traveling abroad, the current exchange rate means you can catch a three day pass for $280 USD ($375 Australian Dollars).
Backpacking Europe this summer? Stop by Portugal for one of Europe’s hottest venues, July 7th though 9th. Headliners include Radiohead, the Pixies, and Arcade Fire. On top of some of the best possible acts, tickets only run about $64 USD ($56 Euro) per day. Unlike its US counterparts, this festival is only 15 minutes from the closest beach and 8 minutes from downtown Lisbon. Nos Alive makes for possibly the best destination concert venue this summer.
One of the classics, Glastonbury in its current form has been churning out summer beats since the early 1970s. Glastonbury continues to feature some of the best worldwide acts, such as Adele, Beck, LCD Soundsystem, Muse, and classics like ZZ Top. The show runs from June 22nd to 26th in the beautiful English countryside. Dozens of areas make up the festival, and considering the surroundings, you’ll definitely want to camp on site as this is the most exciting place to be for kilometers in all directions.
