During his college years, Gary Einloth developed a strong interest and passion for painting and art. He began frequenting local museums and art galleries around the city and started taking painting classes at Rutgers University.
As Gary Einloth learned more and more about art and painting, he found that a few artists in particular brought him great inspiration. These inspirational artists include Vincent van Gogh, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, and Jean-Michel Basquiat.
Considered one of the greatest Dutch painters alongside Rembrandt, Vincent van Gogh had a great influence and far reaching impact on 20th-century art. His artwork included portraits, self portraits, still lifes, landscapes, and other forms of nature such as fields, sunflowers, and olive trees. He was well known for his expressive and spontaneous use of bright, vivid colors along with his broad oil brushstrokes. One of his most famous paintings is The Starry Night, depicting the view of an idealized village from the window of an asylum room.
Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec was an impactful French painter and illustrator during the late 19th century. Along with Van Gogh, Henri was a major part of the Post-Impressionist period. He has a particularly remarkable skill for depicting people living their everyday lives, whether they are out dancing at the Moulin Rouge or working and completing their daily chores.
Jean-Michel Basquiat was a unique and inspirational American artist from New York City. He began his career in the late 1970s as a part of an informal graffiti duo known as SAMO. This was a time when the post-punk, hip hop and street art movements began to form together. Soon after, during the 1980s, Basquiat’s neo-expressionist paintings were being exhibited in galleries and museums worldwide.
